David has been vicar at St Mary’s since April 2009. He is married to Cathie, and they have two children. Born in Burundi, he grew up in East Africa, attending schools mainly in Kenya, while his father worked in Rwanda and Burundi. He returned to the UK to study French and German at Durham University, before spending two years in India in a mission to European drug-addicts, hippies and drop-outs.
In 1978 he began training for ordination at Trinity College Bristol. He served as curate at St Stephens, Tonbridge between 1981-84, and as vicar of Emmanuel, Southall between 1984-91. In 1991 he became vicar of Christ Church, Dartford, where he and his family spent 18 years.
David wears another hat, as Bishop’s Advisor for Overseas Links. This involves encouraging parish churches in the Diocese of Rochester to form friendship links with parish churches in the Dioceses with whom we are linked overseas – in Estonia, Zimbabwe and Tanzania. David makes occasional visits to these places.
Outside of work, his hobbies are photography, cycling, skiing, jogging and gardening.
